Ever since painting began, the work of Great Masters has been imitated. Here is my Chinese brush painting of “Proserpine.” The original “Proserpine,” oil on canvas, was created by the British Pre-Raphaelite artist Rossetti (1828-1882) in 1874. Like the Impressionists, the Pre-Raphaelites wanted to show ‘truth to nature’ in their works. In this portrait of Jane Morris as Proserpine shows Rossetti’s use of harmonious color and subdued light to create a mood.
