Ever since painting began, the work of great masters has been imitated by other painters. Here is my Chinese brush painting of “The Gleaners.” The original “The Gleaners,” oil on canvas, was created by the influential French painter Millet (1814-1875) in 1857. Many of Millet’s paintings are on this theme of rural life, emphasizing the labor involved in working the land. He invests the paintings with his sympathy for the subject and he never shows the festivity or lighter side of country life.
